2027 is Your Year to Golf Fox Harb'r

Two new courses by Carrick and McBroom. Thirty-six holes on the Northumberland Strait.

2027 is the first season all 36 holes are open at Fox Harb'r. Doug Carrick and Tom McBroom have built two new 18-hole courses on the Northumberland Strait: the Ocean, a links that runs out to the bluffs, and the Vineyard, a tree-lined heathland course in the tradition of southern England. They play nothing alike. Play one and you will want the other.

“Canada's next hot golf destination.”

The Ocean and the Vineyard

Two Courses: Nothing alike. Play both.

Fox Harb'r asked for 36 holes of high calibre. Carrick and McBroom delivered a links you play against the wind and a heathland course that rewards the smart shot. Bring your whole game. You will need it.

The Ocean Course

Opens May 6, 2027

The Strait is held back on purpose. You open inland through sculpted, dune-like ground, then step onto the elevated fifth tee and the whole Strait opens up. From there, the ocean is in view on every hole.

The finish runs along the coast. The 15th is a downwind par 3 to a green set above the rocky shore. The 17th is a par 5 on the bluffs: carry three bunkers to reach the infinity green in two, or lay up. Pot bunkers, wispy fescue and wind from every direction, with some fairways more than 60 yards wide.

McBroom on the 15th: “It will come to be remembered as one of the great ocean par 3 holes along the likes of 7 at Pebble Beach or 16 at Cypress Point.”

The Vineyard Course

Opens June 15, 2027

Both architects expected the Vineyard to play second to the Ocean. During construction they changed their minds. It is tree-lined heathland in the tradition of southern England, sheltered from the wind and laid on ground they barely touched.

This is a thinking golfer's course. The par-5 3rd gives you three lines for your second shot: short of the bunkers, over them, or down the right past a large pond. At the short par-4 10th, long hitters can carry the cross bunkers and try to run a drive onto the green through a gap only 10 yards wide.

Carrick on the 10th: “A birdie hole that is also fraught with danger.”

The architects

Two Courses: Carrick and McBroom, together

Between them, Doug Carrick and Tom McBroom have won Golf Digest's Best New Course in Canada ten times. At Fox Harb'r they worked as one team on both courses. Before either was hired, each drew his own routing for the property. The two came back almost identical, right down to holding the ocean back until the fifth tee. The land had already decided where the holes should go.

They built wide landing areas, generous approaches and bigger-than-usual greens, so the courses reward good golf without punishing the rest of your group. Championship tees stretch beyond 7,000 yards for the low handicapper who wants the full test.

“I think the old expression that ‘I could play these courses every day and never get tired of them’ is apt.”

Tom McBroom, golf course architect

Nova Scotia Crafted

Two Courses: And so much more

Carrick and McBroom laid both courses on the land rather than forcing them onto it. The rest of Fox Harb'r is made the same way. The kitchen cooks with what fishers and farmers nearby bring in, and with what grows in the resort's own greenhouses. Suites sit along the course, with a fire for the evening. Service is attentive, then steps back. Nothing here is added for show. It is a stay shaped by the Northumberland Strait: its pace, its light and its people.
